A creative community therapy facility for individuals with poor mental health in Nottingham, enabling a healing environment which will aid in the recovery process. The scheme is based on therapeutic design and the focus of architectural design on the primary user – i.e. humanistic design. This involves breaking down the barriers of institutional and prison-like facilities, and reforming spatial design using the individuals’ experience, emotions, and senses. The design will provide a holistic approach incorporating elements shown to significantly improve mental health outcomes such as good lighting levels, private & open spaces, outdoor space, and human interaction through activity involvement.
